The 90 Mt Challenge: Composition Analysis
Sargassum is 82% water. Processing on land requires shipping this water weight, killing unit economics. XGC's "At-Sea" strategy processes the biomass in situ, extracting the valuable Volatile Solids (VS) for energy and credit generation without the logistics burden.
Mass Balance Breakdown
-
💧
Moisture (73.8 Mt) The Logistics Killer. Eliminated by ship-based processing.
-
🍂
Inert Solids (7.6 Mt) Ash, sand, and structural fibers.

Volatile Solids (8.6 Mt) The "Sovereign Asset." Used for Biogas (Energy Autonomy) and Carbon Credits.
The "Biorefinery-on-the-Water"
XGC employs a proprietary "Condition → Separate → Convert" architecture. This allows high-rate EGSB reactors to function on a moving vessel, converting waste into power and biochar.
Conditioning
Maceration + Acid Wash loop removes salt/arsenic, creating a reactor-safe slurry.
Liquefaction
CSTR tanks break fibers into VFAs. Separates liquid Leachate from solids.
EGSB Reactor
Granular sludge processes leachate in hours, powering the ship via Biogas.
Pyrolysis
Solids are converted to Biochar at 500°C, locking carbon for 100+ years.
Carbon Credit Revenue Stack
Our strategy prioritizes Pathway B (Biochar Removal) for its high market value ($130+/ton), while utilizing Pathway A (Avoidance) for immediate baseline registration.
Pathway B: The Alpha
Biochar Removals command premium pricing ($130-$200/t) vs ~$8/t for avoidance. This drives the $2.3B upside.
Pathway A: The Safety Net
"Avoided Methane" credits (Gold Standard) provide secure, early-stage cash flow ($90M-$275M).
Unit Economics & CAPEX
Investment is split between the Maritime Asset (Retrofit) and the Industrial Module. By generating its own fuel, the XGC vessel achieves an OPEX profile unmatched by traditional fleets.
CAPEX Distribution (Max Est.)
Energy Autonomy Advantage
Traditional fleets spend 30-40% of OPEX on diesel.
The XGC Vessel generates ~40,000 Nm³ of methane daily, powering propulsion and operations with zero fuel cost.
The Contaminant Shield Protocol
To solve the heavy metal challenge (Arsenic) in Sargassum, XGC implements a rigorous 3-Tier remediation strategy.
Acid Loop
Dilute acid wash during maceration solubilizes surface salts and inorganic Arsenic, removing them before digestion.
Thermal Lock
Pyrolysis at 450-550°C stabilizes remaining metals into non-bioavailable forms within the carbon lattice.
Green Concrete
Batch fails soil test? It is diverted to concrete aggregate, permanently sequestering carbon and contaminants safely.
